Your Health

Your health — and your family's health — are extremely important. That's why Progressive offers plans that make health care as affordable as possible. Our health care options also help you and your family continue to stay healthy.

Managing Your Health Care Coverage

Progressive cares about the health needs of you and your family. That's why we offer plans to help make health care as affordable as possible and provide options to help you and your family stay healthy.

  • Medical Plan Options – When it comes to medical care, you have a choice of plans designed to fit your needs. You can take comfort in knowing that our deductible/coinsurance medical plans are the same in terms of medical procedures, services, and prescription drugs that are covered. In addition, all three plans have the same network of doctors, coinsurance percentages and out-of-pocket maximums. You can decide which plan best fits your financial needs and health care experiences. Depending on where you live, HMO plans may be available.
  • Dental Plan Options – Our dental plan let's you choose any licensed dentist you want. However, if you visit a dentist within the network, you may pay less for your care, because participating dentists have agreed to network discounted rates.
  • Vision Plan Options – If you are enrolled in a Progressive medical plan, your benefits include one eye exam per year. You can go to any eye doctor, but you'll maximize your benefits by seeing a network doctor because your exam will be covered in full.

For many, a basic eye exam is not enough. If you prefer more coverage than this, you can choose our comprehensive vision plan, administered by VSP. This plan includes reimbursement for glasses and contacts.
  • Health Care Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts – Our health care flexible spending accounts can help you save money on your taxes by allowing you to set aside pretax money from every paycheck for eligible health care expenses.

Similar to health care flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts allow you to set aside pretax money for eligible health care expenses. However, health savings accounts also earn interest and allow balances to be carried over each year. The money can be used for current health care expenses or saved for future health care expenses.
  • Benefits Planning Tools – To help you decide which benefits are right for you, we've created various planning tools that can assist you with your choices.
  • Employee Assistance Program – Life can be stressful, so we offer an Employee Assistance Program to help you during tough times. The Employee Assistance Program is a confidential 24-hour service that helps you and your family balance the demands of work, life and personal issues. The program is available to assist you with issues such as mental health, emotional concerns and relationship difficulties.

Taking a Leave of Absense

Sometimes you need to take time off to care for yourself if you're ill or injured. We know you want to focus on recovery, and we offer short-term and long-term disability benefits so you can have financial protection during these times. We also offer job protection when you need to spend time caring for a loved one.

  • Short-Term Disability – If you have a personal illness or injury that prevents you from performing essential duties of your job, you may be eligible for income replacement under our short-term disability benefit.
  • Long-Term Disability – If you've been certified disabled for 91 consecutive calendar days and you have a personal illness or injury that prevents you from performing the duties and responsibilities of your job, you may be eligible for income replacement under our long-term disability benefit.
  • Workers' Compensation – You may be able to use workers' compensation, a state-mandated insurance program that provides coverage for lost wages and reasonable medical expenses, if you are injured during the course and scope of your job.
  • FMLA – With the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), you can take up to 12 weeks of unpaid time off per calendar year. During your FMLA time, your job is protected, so you'll know you can return to it after your leave. You can use the FMLA in the following situations:
    • Serious illness or injury to yourself
    • Serious illness or injury to your spouse/domestic partner, child or parent
    • Birth, adoption or foster care placement of a child
    • For certain difficulties arising from your spouse/domestic partner, child or parent on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Personal Leave – At times you may need to be away from work for personal reasons. In some circumstances, you can take a personal leave of absence, which is different from the FMLA or any other federal or state law. The duration and details of a personal leave will depend on your needs and Progressive's needs, all of which can be discussed with your manager.

Staying Healthy

Though it may be challenging to focus on achieving and maintaining good health, we're committed to supporting you to reach your goals. We provide onsite medical facilities, fitness centers and wellness programs that encourage people to improve their overall health and well-being.

  • Progressive Health Services – Our on-site health centers at several of our larger locations provide more affordable and convenient health care options for you and your family. Our centers are staffed with experienced providers who are accredited and credentialed in their specialized fields. Services include preventive services, chronic condition treatment, diagnostic screenings and acute care treatment.
  • Fitness Centers – We strongly believe in a healthy lifestyle, and regardless of your fitness experience, your work schedule or what exercises you enjoy, our on-site fitness centers at our larger locations have something for you. Our programs are designed to provide education and participation in fitness-related activities, and they're available to both you and your family.
  • Wellness Programs – The road to a healthy life starts with prevention. We're proud to offer several programs to keep you healthy by motivating, educating and enabling you to improve your health and quality of life. We offer programs that can help you monitor your health and possibly prevent serious issues. These programs in our large locations include: free on-site health screenings, flu shots and mammography screenings.

To help you recharge and refocus, we offer quiet rooms and chair massages. Our quiet rooms are equipped with dim lighting, comfortable chairs and privacy screens. Chair massages are provided by certified massage therapists for a nominal fee in select locations.

Progressive people and their families can participate in America on the Move, a fun and easy physical activity and healthy eating program, at no cost.

If you want to lose weight but don't want to do it alone, you can participate in the Weight Watchers at Work program with fellow Progressive people. To help make your weight loss successful, this program can teach and motivate you to eat properly — even with your busy lifestyle.
  • Ergonomics – When you work at a computer all day, you know how important it is to be comfortable. In fact, properly designed workstations can improve your comfort, job satisfaction, work performance and overall sense of well-being.
